Let me see if I can get these 2 links to work.
http://www.network54.com/Forum/thre...8&lp=1088381193

http://www.greatwar.nl/frames/default-color.html

If they don't work, just try Googling "WW1 color photos"
the 1st site takes a long time to load, but they're amazing. There is some debate if they're actually authentic or digitally colorized, but the story seems to check out.- French had a very expensive color photo technique which noone else had at the time.

To me, they just look unreal. But only because I'm not used to seeing color pics of that era. It really brings the history alive, don't it? Makes you realize they were real people with cows and houses ect... (whatever that means... lol).. instead of just pictures in history books.

Fuck off!
I think early BAR version - it's missing the special hotchkiss cooling system.

That was actually a quite effective machine gun for its time.

Chop-chop!
That light-machinegun is the American Hotchkiss M1909 Benet-Mercie.

You can tell it's a hotchkiss model obviously by the bolt right above the gunner's right hand. The thing is. The picture on wikipedia of the Hotchkiss M1909 Benet-Mercie shows cooling fins while the "postcard" image above it has a smooth casing where the fins should be. Maybe it's a mistake the artist made.

Moreover, there are those metallic feed trays, who were also used on the first Hotchkiss models.

Don't quote me on this, but I think I saw one of those in the Liberty memorial. It's been years since I've been there, but I just might go check it out before my leave's over. I'm personally glad that Colt stuck with rifles, you gotta admit they hit a dime with the M-16. Has anyone heard of the Peterson (or maybe Patterson) device for the Springfield? My buddy has a Springfield that has an adapter, but apparantly the device would allow the Springfield to fire .32 cal pistol rounds semi-automatic. The device never saw service during the war (I guess we were a day late and a dollar short with everything back then lol...) but was completed in late 1918 or early 1919. From what I was told the idea was to have one or two men in every squad armed with it to "sweep" the trenches, much like the Thompson. Not a bad idea, but I don't think it was even in service by 1920.
